The book "Sacred Marriage" by Gary Thomas emphasizes this thought exactly. The theme for the book is "What if God designed marriage to make us more holy th an to make us happy?" This is one of the few books that, in my 25 years of marriage, I wish I had BEFORE I had married, along with "Love Life for Every Married Couple" by Dr. Ed Wheat. Thomas' related book "Sacred Parenting" discusses the same thing about parenting.
