Here Is God's Sweetest Characteristic

This may be the sweetest of God’s characteristics. Bringing comfort, warmth, and assurance, God through his love connects to us in ways that his others attributes aren’t able.

He has an everlasting affection for us that will never be broken. No matter what we do or think; whether we try to run from God as Jonah did or stay under his wing, he always pursues us with his love.

Created before the foundations of the earth, his love adopted us - even though were still estranged from him - as his children. (Ephesians 1:4-5)

To assure us that he was serious about his love, centuries ago, he entered into a one-way contract – a covenant - claiming that he would never abandon us nor forsake us. He hasn’t and he won’t; for that would be against his love. (Genesis 17:7 for example)

His love for us has been steadfast through our lifetimes despite our love toward him being less than so. As our hearts continually wander from him and do not remain firmly captivated by his love, he relentlessly continues to love us. He never plays the part of a jilted lover who permanently separates, but rather a devoted father who loves through thick and thin.

The greatest demonstration of his love is found in his son, Jesus. Imagine loving someone so intensely that you are willing to sacrifice your innocent son in the most gruesome manner known to man. That in the midst of your son enduring an extraordinarily painful execution, you pour out your anger upon him that is so intense that melts mountains; not for what your son has done mind you, but for what the person you love so intensely has done. That is love.

God is love. (1 John 4:8)
