Examine Your Motives - A Physical for the Christian Soul
Our motives reside in our hearts. They help compel us to act. As we examine our walk with Jesus, we can not ignore this side of us.
Our minds know what to do, yet many times our hearts are too weak to act in accordance because we desire to do something else.
The answers in the poll questions and the explanation of those questions hopefully gauge your motives accurately in the areas of your relationships, worship, discipleship, and spiritual disciplines.
Here is where the rubber meets the road. It’s easy to love someone who you like … anyone can do that, but what about loving someone despite the differences you may have with them?
Scripture is clear on this issue. Matthew 5:44-48
Imagine being in a relationship that you can’t get out of and the other person waxes and wanes between despising, disobeying, and loving; abandoning, and then wanting you. Have you been there?
You give them clear direction on how to stay out of trouble because you love them, yet they do what they want, when they want to do it. They continually disobey you because in their headstrong way they believe that their way is the better way ... that their desires are more valuable than your relationship. Have you been there?
For some, receiving love is really difficult. Opening our hearts means risking a letdown, possibly another broken heart. Discouraged after love fails, we view it cynically or just flat give up.
But, what if there was a love out there that never disappoints? One that would not discourage or give up on you? One that would continually pour into you and never abandon you?
What would that look like? Who has the capacity to give me that type of love?
