Do We Chose God or Does God Chose Us?
Written by David Zook

This may be one of the most difficult things to understand about grace. The essence of grace is unmerited favor. That is there is nothing one can do to earn favor. You can’t behave into it, you can’t buy into it, nor can you wish your way into it. You are at the complete and utter mercy of the sovereign decision maker to receive it.

Have you ever wondered why God chose the Israelites as “his treasured possession, out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.”? (Deuteronomy 7:6) Was it because they were the biggest or strongest or was it because of the Israelite’s desire? No, it was because God simply loved them and promised to Abraham that a great nation would come from him. (Deuteronomy 7:7)

Abraham was certainly among many people living at the time God chose him to be the father of the faith, yet Scripture gives us no indication that he deserved it. God simply chose him. (Genesis 12:1-3)

Leave this One to the Holy Spirit: Convicting Others of Sin

Prosecuting attorneys prosecute. They analyze gathered evidence; they tell law enforcement what type of evidence they need in order to strengthen their case; then they bring charges against the accused.

Their job is to convict the accused of their wrongdoing before a judge and a jury.

As Christians look through the lens of the Bible, we observe the way others live their lives; make judgments based on those observations; and determine that person doesn’t have Christ in his live and needs to be saved.

We think man, if they would only trust Christ and live according to Him, their lives would be more in sync.

Gossip: One of Life's Deadly Poisons and What To Do About It

Gossip, Gossip, Gossip

Rumors playing

Really…what are you saying?
Gossip, Gossip, Gossip

The destructiveness of gossip should come as no surprise. The Bible tells us that man can tame wild beasts, but can’t tame the tongue. It is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. (James 3:7-8) No doubt, our tongues are used to bless, uplift, and encourage, but they are also used to curse, run down, and discourage.

Gossip entices us because our hearts want to know the “dirt” as it pleases our innermost being. (Proverbs 18:8)

Nothing good comes from gossip. It betrays friendships and if done enough will prevent new friendships. (Proverbs 20:19) It damages the reputation of the person and makes you look foolish.

What Disneyland Can Teach Christians
Written by David Zook

We took our boys to Disneyland for three days last week during their fall bmickeyreak.  It was my first time.   During the three days there and walking through thousands upon thousands of people, I only saw one heated argument and two kids throwing fits … ours was one of them.  Simply amazing.

That got me to thinking, why were thousands of people so relaxed and well behaved … was it Disney or the people?  Well, as I looked around there was a healthy cross section of people … rich, poor, white, Hispanic, Asian, black, male, female, young, old and everything in between were walking around being courteous and many had smiles on their faces.

Here Is God's Sweetest Characteristic
Written by David Zook

This may be the sweetest of God’s characteristics. Bringing comfort, warmth, and assurance, God through his love connects to us in ways that his others attributes aren’t able.

He has an everlasting affection for us that will never be broken. No matter what we do or think; whether we try to run from God as Jonah did or stay under his wing, he always pursues us with his love.

Created before the foundations of the earth, his love adopted us - even though were still estranged from him - as his children. (Ephesians 1:4-5)
